description:

The 80,000 seat stadium concept of a five-segmented “folded bowl” bursting with energy and light between the sectors was inspired by origami and cherry blossoms.  The International Design Competition entry included 52 luxury suites and a dynamic retractable roof which helps set the brand for the new venue for the Japan Sport Council.  The new stadium was designed for hosting high-profile international athletic competitions including the 2019 World Rugby Championships and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Project bid was ultimately unsuccessful with Zaha Hadid Architects eventually winning the competition.
