description:
Historic Newman Park has been home to the Catawba College Indians since 1926, and Phase One of the ballpark's renovation project was completed in 2021. Phase One of the Newman Park renovation included the installation of a full turf field by Shaw Sports Turf, state-of-the-art dugout space, Musco LED Lighting, the addidtion of three turf bullpen mounds down the left field line, and new wall padding which surrounds the field of play. The picturesque ballpark seats approximately 1,500 fans and is the third oldest operational ballpark in North Carolina. Newman Park was the former home to the Class A Salisbury Senators of MiLB.
Former University of Maryland Sr. Associate Director of Athletics Larry Leckonby engaged Eric J Einhorn to work on the renovation of Historic Newman Park per their prior working relationship on the Tyser Tower Expansion and Renovation at Byrd Stadium at Maryland several years earlier.
